Bellesa Community’s Top 10 rom-coms to get you in the Valentine's Day spirit

By Bellesa Team

If you plan to spend valentine’s day in, be it with yourself, the gals, or your partner - there’s nothing better than a classic rom-com. So we asked you, the Bellesa community, to share your favourite rom-coms to get you in the v-day spirit. Grab some takeout, a glass of wine, and get comfy with one of these bb faves!

10. You’ve Got Mail

The OG queen of rom-coms, Meg Ryan, gave us classics like Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, Top Gun, and of course You’ve Got Mail. It’s giving 90’s nostalgia, it’s giving forbidden love, it’s giving Upper West Side charm, and it's giving a goofy/charming Tom Hanks. Y’all may have only ranked this #10 but it’s at least Top 5 for me.

9. 27 dresses

Katherine Heigl knows how to deliver hits and James Marsden is an absolute dream. The bridesmaid dress try-on haul is iconic as is the Bennie and the Jets sing along. This movie is an overall fun time.

8. Notting Hill

Nothing hits quite like a classic Julia Roberts movie…. And a 90’s Hugh Grant is beyond loveable! If we learned anything from You’ve Got Mail, it’s that we love a small neighbourhood bookstore owner.

Honourable Julia Roberts mentions: Pretty Woman and My Best Friend’s Wedding.

7. 13 Going on 30

This is the ideal Galentine’s Day movie night. The iconic outfits, the teenage awkwardness, the perfect casting. The movie does not miss.

6. About Time

K so we’re moving into tear jerkers now - thanks for that. Rachael McAdams is another rom-com icon that you can always rely on.

Honourable sob-worthy movie mentions: The Notebook and One Day

5. The Proposal

Now to drastically switch gears we’re going heavy on the “com”. This cast is incredible and this movie is so fun. Ryan and Sandra are perfection and anything with Betty White has my heart. Watching this immediately, bye.

4. 50 First Dates

Another queen of the 00’s rom-coms Ms. Drew Barrymore brings us this classic. I never thought I’d associate an Adam Sandler movie with v-day vibes but this one is actually cute and fun. A great fit for a casual Netflix and chill date.

Honourable Drew Barrymore mentions: Never Been Kissed and Fever Pitch

3. When Harry Met Sally

The ultimate Meg Ryan Classic. So many of you voted for this I don’t really feel like I need to say anything more to hype it up. If you haven’t seen this, watch immediately. If you have seen it, I think it’s time for a rewatch!

2. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This has to be the most likeable movie ever. I’m basically always down for a Kate Hudson or Matthew McConaughey movie but together they are everything! Also, the yellow dress *drool*.

Side note: buy your significant other a “love fern” for v-day and if they get it, they can stay.

And the number one pick by an absolute landslide

DRUM ROLL PLEASE…..

1. 10 Things I Hate About You

Heath Ledger had such a chokehold on all of us and Julia Stiles was an icon of 00’s cinema. I literally started a petition in middle school to watch this movie as part of our Shakespeare unit cuz I was so obsessed. The serenade, the paint fight, the poem…. UGH! This movie was a cultural reset and absolutely deserves this top spot.

Honourable mentions: Sweet Home Alabama, The Holiday, Princess Bride, Bridget Jones’ Diary, What’s Your Number, What If, The Sweetest Thing, Someone Great, Sleepless in Seattle, Moonstruck, Me Before You, Love and Other Drugs, Friends with Benefits, Crazy Stupid Love, Dirty Dancing, The Wedding Planner.
